Plucked from relative obscurity, 3 years ago HAAi was instilled as the Saturday night resident for London club Phonox, with her residency coming to an end in September 2018 after a run of sold-out closing parties & her debut Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 being named the Essential Mix of the Year, leading to her becoming the resident presenter on the station. In this time, her profile has grown exponentially, now playing shows and festivals all over the world to thousands of revelers who have bought into her propulsive and eclectic selections. HAAi is an avid collector of Thai and Turkish funk, tripped-out psychedelic records and Nigerian and Kenyan beats. Playing for 6 hours every Saturday night has allowed her to seamlessly mix these genres in with her love of techno, creating an unrivaled experience for the adoring fans she plays to around the globe.
Having developed a discerning following at Phonox for her well-versed all night long sets, HAAi has spent the last 2 summers extending her following in Europe and other continents, HAAi is quickly becoming the DJs DJ. Late 2018 saw HAAi take this unique sound to the other side of the globe with a tour of her native Australia and Asia, but before then she joined Jon Hopkins on 7 of his European tour dates, including Oslo, Stockholm, Brussels, Berlin, Paris & 2 sold-out Brixton Academy’s in London. 2019 has seen the first installment of HAAi’s own branded headline show, where she goes back to her roots playing from doors until close.
The launch of her label ‘Coconut Beats’ has acted as the home for her own productions with several singles & the critically acclaimed EP ‘Motorik Voodoo Bush Doof Musik’, championed by BBC Radio 1, 6Music, Red Bull, Mixmag, Resident Advisor and scores of other top tier publications. She has announced her next EP will be released before the end of the year. These releases are reflective of her tastes that fuse world music influences with stomping basslines, rattling percussion & dark synth chords.
There’s no doubt that HAAi was one of the fastest rising stars of 2018 and 2019 is hers for the taking, she has established herself as one of the finest selectors in the game & it won’t be long before she’s headlining main stages around the globe.
